2012 Timeline and Guidelines:

• All selected tellers from local storytelling events must submit videos to State Representatives by Oct 1st, 2011 (or to the Timpanogos Storytelling Institute if you do not have a state contact). See the website for details.
• State Representatives will review all videos and select the five (5) state finalists, and will send those five (5) tapes to the Timpanogos Storytelling Institute by Oct 22nd, 2011. Entries must be accompanied by the required and completed entry forms or they will be disqualified. Timpanogos Storytelling Institute will establish an independent panel of judges for any entries without a State Representative, and will follow the same time line.
• A national panel of judges will evaluate recordings knowing only the youth’s first name and age range. State and last name are not included in the judging process. The national committee will forward the list of finalists to our office by Nov 13th, 2011.
• Finalists will be notified either by telephone or email from Utah before 5 p.m. on Nov 19th, 2011. Torchbearers will receive an invitation to present their story at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase on Feb 8-11, 2011 in Orem, Utah. All State Finalists are invited to attend the Timpanogos Midwinter Conference and join in the experience and fun.

Guideline:

Length of performance should be approximately 5-7 minutes, but definitely NOT over 12 minutes.

Video Recording:

Use digital recording in a format that will play on a standard home DVD player. Make sure your name is clearly marked on the disk. There should be only one story on each DVD. DVD’s may be returned only if accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped mailer.

Age Range:

The age categories will be Kindergarten to 5th grade, 6th through 8th grade, High School and possible Tandem division of mixed ages. State Representatives are invited to travel to Orem, Utah. 8-10 top ranking Torchbearers will be invited to perform for the Showcase. The maximum age will be 18 years old as of the date of the showcase.
